4. SAMPLING, INSPECTION, AND TEST PROCEDURES
4.1 Classification of tests. - The inspection and testing or regulators
shall be classified as follows:
4.1.1 Qualification tests. - Qualification tests are those tests accom-
plished on samples submitted for qualification as a satisfactory product.
4.1.2 Inspection on tests. - Inspection tests are those tests accomplished
on regulators submitted for acceptance under contract.
4.2 Test conditions:
4.2.1 Standard atmospheric conditions. - Whenever the pressures and
temperature existing at the time of tests are not specified definitely, it is
understood that the test is to be made at atmospheric pressure (approximately
29.92 inches Hg) and at room temperature (approximately 25°C). When tests are
made with atmospheric pressure or room temperature differing materially from
the above values, propor allowance shall be made for the difference from the
specified condition.
4.2.2 Cleaning. - Before testing any regulator, except as otherwise
specified in 4.3.3.3, all oil, grease, or any other temporary corrosion
resistant oompound shall be removed from the interior and exterior parts
of the regulator.
4.2.3 Test setup No. 1. - Test setup No. 1 shall be schematically similar
to that shown on Figure 1 and shall be used for all qualification tests except
for those necessitating special equipment, such as vibration, salt spray,
et cetera.
4.2.4 Test chamber. - The volume of the cabin chamber shall be proportional
to the rated regulator capacity and shall be no greater than the cabin volume
specified in the detail specification.
4.2.4.1 Air heating unit. - The air heating unit shall be capable of
maintaining a temperature of 74 ± 2 °C in the testing chamber during the
specified tests.
4.2.4.2 Air cooling and dehumidifying unit. - The air cooling and
dehumidifying unit shall be capable of maintaining a temperature of -54 ± 2°C
in the testing chamber during the specified tests.
4.2.5 Test setup No. 2. - Test setup No. 2 shall be schematically similar
to that shown on Figure 2 and shall be used for the endurance cyling for the
endurance test and for contaminating the regulator for the contaminated air
test.
