Unless otherwise indicated, the issue in effect on date of invitation for bids or
request for proposal shall apply.

3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 First article. This specification makes provisions for first article testing
(see 4.4 and 6.2).
3.2 Major components. The major components of the survival kit containers shall
be as shown on figure 1 and shall include the parachute deployment sensing cable
assembly (see 3.6.5) that is listed but not shown on figure 1.
3.3 Selection of specifications and standards. Specifications and standards for
necessary commodities and services not specified herein shall be selected in
accordance with MIL-STD-143.
3.4 Materials. Nonmagnetic materials shall be used for all components except
where magnetic materials offer definite advantages. Materials that are not
susceptible to fungus attack shall be used to the greatest extent practicable,
Materials that are susceptible to fungus attack, if used, shall be treated with
a fungicidal agent. The materials used in the constrction of the components of
the survival kit container shall be the lightest possible weight consistent with
configuration, strength, and any other requirements specified herein.
