MIL-S-83492 (USAF)
3.5.1 Operation The following operations shall be allowed by the survival
kit containers.
(a) Removal of the survival kit container from the aircraft for mainte-
nance: The manual override selector lever of the automatic actuator shall be
used as the safety mechanism of the actuator firing pin during maintenance
handling to prevent accidental automatic operation. . Disconnection of all
attachments of the survival kit container to the seat, to the parachute, and
to the aircraft shall be made without the use of special tools and without
opening the survival kit container.
(b) Normal egress from the aircraft after a flight, leaving the survival
kit container in the aircraft: Disconnection of the survival kit container
shall be made at the personnel torso harness accessory rings, The automatic.
deployment sensing cable assembly shall not require separate disconnection for
normal egress.
(c) Emergency egress from the aircraft on the ground or in the water:
Operation of the personnel restraint subsystem will release the man from the
seat. The survival kit container may be removed or may remain in the aircraft
based upon the user's decision. When the survival kit container is to be left
in the aircraft, the emergency release handle shall permit manual actuation of"
the survival kit container to release all connections between the survival kit
container, the user, and the parachute. The raft shall not be actuated. The
survival kit container dropline attachment fitting shall remain with the portion
of hardware remaining with the survival kit container. The automatic actuator
deployment sensing cable shall separate automatically as required based upon the
ejection seat system emergency egress mode.
(d) Ejection with subsequent manual or automatic release of the survival
kit container from the man followed by inflation of the raft. The raft and the
other survival equipment shall be secured to the man by means of a dropline.
This operation shall be accomplished in the following steps:
(1) Separation of the survival kit container from the seat shall
automatically connect the dropline to the portion of the survival kit container
hardware remaining attached to the personnel torso harness accessory ring after
survival kit container deployment. The parachute canopy will automatically de-
ploy and fully inflate. As the man separates from the seat (type T survival
kit container) or as the canopy risers deploy from the parachute pack (type II
survival kit container), the deployment sensing cable assembly shall be pulled
and shall separate and initiate the automatic actuator and cause survival kit
container hardware operation 4 seconds (plus or minus 1 second) after sensing
cable operation unless the override selector prevents operation.
